Insulin Resistance is a problem where your pancreas pumps out the insulin, which should then allow any sugars in the blood to be transported into muscle cells. The muscle cells then convert sugars into energy. Instead, the effect of the insulin is ‘resisted’ by the cells and the sugars are not absorbed as efficiently. The sugars are then stored away by the body as fat. The irony is that the more fat you store the more tendency to Insulin Resistance you have. Insulin Resistance can lead onto problems such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Detectable diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease are then more likely to occur. To help reduce Insulin Resistance, the membranes that surround every cell need to be not too hard nor too soft, but just right. Animal fats will make the membrane too hard so diets need to be low in fats from meat, butter, and lard. There goes anything wrapped in pastry! Vegetable oils (Omega 6) in excess will make the membranes too soft. Avoid margarine and cooking with too much vegetable oil. Omega 3 oils are just right. A diet, which includes fish twice a week, can be an excellent source of Omega 3. The typical Australian diet is too low in Omega 3 oils. Exercise is also very important in reducing Insulin Resistance.

Return

Leaky gut syndrome is a condition of altered or damaged bowel lining. It is caused by increased permeability of the gut wall resulting from toxins, poor diet, parasites, infection, or medications. The leaky gut then allows substances such as toxins, microbes, undigested food, waste, or larger than normal macromolecules leak through an abnormally permeable gut wall. These substances affect the body directly or may initiate an immune reaction.

Intestinal inflammation which may originate from intestinal dysbiosis or other sources of irritation, widens the junctions between the cells of the intestinal lining, allowing endotoxins and incompletely digested particles to be partially absorbed. These are targeted by antibodies, forming immune complexes which cause a semi-infectious state and can be carried by the bloodstream to distant sites where they may stimulate the release of cytokines. Low grade fever, transient gut pain, and a sense of inability to absorb nutrients are some reported symptoms in otherwise undiagnosed patients.

Leaky gut in Iridology is seen as lines or spokes radiating out from the pupil and may extend out to the outer edge of the iris. Example 1 Example 2 Example 3 [mild in blue eye]
