Ketone Test

You can use Ketostix [available through me] to test your urine for ketones. Ketones in the urine can show  that you are breaking down fat in the body. When you are on a diet to lose weight you can test your urine levels for ketones to see if your strategy is working.

The urine stick should read either trace, small or moderate.

Moderate or higher could indicate that you are losing too much fat too quickly and you need to increase carbohydrates and or reduce protein intake.

Trace or negative could indicate that you are not losing fat quickly enough and that you need to reduce your carbohydrate and fat intake and increase your protein intake.

Proteins to include; meat, fish, eggs, tofu, tempeh, dhal + rice, lentils, low fat cheese like ricotta
Carbohydrates to avoid; breads, pasta, grains, sweet fruits, sweet vegetables, sugar, sweet drinks, refined foods

Ph Test

Simply hold the test strip in first morning urine and compare to the colour chart provided.

Subtle changes to the pH of the body can have substantial impacts on a range of health conditions, including stress, bone density, pain, muscle mass and hormonal balance. Urinary pH is a good measure of the ‘acid-load’ within the body.

Urinary pH ranges from 5.5 to 6.5 in the average patient.


A Magnesium supplement I provide will give 4 g per day of potassium citrate, along with Magnesium and glutamine,
to alkalise the body during stress.

Alternatively, a Kidney supplement I provide will give you 4 g per day of potassium citrate along with herbs and nutrients to enhance gut and kidney detoxification.


Zinc Taste Test

The Zinc test is a very simple taste test to determine your bodies level of Zinc. Zinc is a very important nutrient in the body as it is used for every metabolic process in the body. It is import for absorption of nutrients [including zinc itself], healing, the immune system including cancer prevention, weight control, energy, moods e.g. anger and depression as well as many other problems.

Hold 10 ml of Zinc Tally in mouth for 10 seconds, then swallow solution


Category 1
No specific taste or other sensation is noticed, even after the solution has been kept in the mouth for 10 seconds.

Category 2
No immediate taste, but after a few seconds a slight taste of ‘dry mineral’, ‘furry’ or ‘sweet’ develops.

Category 3
A definite, though not strongly unpleasant taste is noted almost immediately and tends to intensify with time.

Category 4
A strong and unpleasant taste is noted immediately.

Category 1 is the poorest zinc level, while category 4 is optimal.


Category 1
Extremely low. Use a liquid zinc supplement as it is the most easily absorbed

Category 2
Very low. Use a liquid or Zinc and Vitamin C powder for best absorption

Category 3
Normal. High quality zinc tablets and/or diet can be used at this level [see Vitamin Mineral page]

Category 4
Normal. Supplementation at this level is not needed. Maintain using high quality multivitamin.

The most accurate results are obtained when testing one hour away from food, fluids and cigarettes.
